North Plains District Preview | Division II Women's Golf
ANKENY, Iowa - Eight NJCAA Division II Women's Golf teams will head to Otter Creek Golf Course on April 27-28 for the North Plains District Tournament. Among them are six ICCAC squads looking to earn the two automatic qualification spots for the national tournament down in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
DMACC enters the field as the highest-ranked team at No. 11 and the inaugural North Plains champions in 2025. The Bears won their home meet in early April in their two meets since, have not been bested by another NJCAA team. Despite winning last year, the Bears have a very different roster this spring. Freshman Megan Wilde is the highest-ranked golfer on the team at No. 27. Wilde has taken a top-five finish at all three tournaments the Bears have competed in this spring, including winning the Bears' home meet.
DMACC won the event last year, the first-ever Division II District tournament in the division's inagural season.
Iowa Central enters the district tournament ranked No. 13, with only four golfers on the roster. The Tritons have a strong roster with everyone within the top 100. Okira Quintero leads the group at No. 46. Quintero has one tournament title this spring and another top-three finish. The roster is filled out by Syeda Laiba Shah, Azul Orantes and Victoria Verstichel, with Shah also having a tournament title this spring.
Last season Iowa Central's Ivanna Beccera-Diaz was the individual champion. She carried the momentum into the national tournament and became the individual national champion as well.
NIACC and Hawkeye enter the district tournament as the No. 16 and No. 24-ranked teams, respectively. The Trojans' top-ranked golfer this spring is Audrey Overgard, but she has competed only once after an impressive fall season. Eve Brumbaugh is the Redtails top ranked golfer heading into districts.
Iowa Lakes and Southeastern round out the ICCAC teams as they look to compete with the top of the pack and earn individual qualifiers.
Southeast (Neb.) and Alexandria Tech (Minn.) are the other two teams bringing players to the event. Southeast, ranked No. 23 of the 27 ranked Division II teams on Clippd, will bring a full roster. Their top player Charli Sievers is ranked No. 81 heading into the event. Alexandria Tech will field two players.
Overall, the tournament has 31 players entered into the field and four teams will complete five player rosters.
With the top two teams earning an automatic bid to the national tournament, it will be a tightly contested race. For teams that do not finish in the top two, three NJCAA teams will be selected as at-large teams to compete in May. The top two individuals not on a qualified team will also be selected to attend the national tournament as individuals -- they must finish in the top 12 and not be on a qualifying team in order to qualify.
